Jeroen van Aart is a doctoral candidate in the Physical Chemistry (SPC) group under Prof. Jaap den Doelder and Dr. Hans Heuts. Jeroen works on polymeric materials that exhibit dynamic behavior induced via dynamic covalent bonds with the aim to improve recyclability of polymers. Research on the implementation of this solution is carried out in both postindustrial polymer waste, and in new virgin designer polymers.
Jeroen completed his bachelor of applied science in 2014 at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven. After a short hiatus from chemistry at the University of Utrecht, he completed his premaster of chemical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2016. After a year of specialization (Molecular systems and Materials Chemistry master track), he started his graduation project titled “Design of Functional Materials with a Stimuli-Responsive Polymer Shell” in which he worked in close cooperation with Dr. Catarina de Carvalho Esteves and the SPC research group. After successfully obtaining his Master of Science degree, Jeroen started his PhD research in September 2018 which is a part of the polynSPIRE research project.
