Gilles Timmermans is a doctoral candidate in the Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices group under supervision of prof. dr. Albert Schenning and dr. Michael Debije. Gilles mainly works on liquid crystalline materials that can change their optical properties as part of the PPS Smart Materials for Greenhouses.

Academic background

In 2010 Gilles started his academic career at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). In 2014 he completed his Bachelor's degree and started his master Chemical Engineering at the TU/e with the Molecular Systems and Materials Chemistry track. His master thesis: "Smart Windows based on Cholesteric Liquid Crystals" was carried out in the Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices (SFD) group under supervisor of prof. dr. Albert Schenning and dr. Hitesh Khandelwal. In March 2017 he has started working as a doctoral candidate in the SFD group on Smart Materials for Greenhouses.
