Gabriele Addario completed his PhD in Biofabrication and Regenerative Medicine at Maastricht University, within the MERLN Institute, in October 2024. His research focused on the development of kidney in vitro models and devices for the study and treatment of kidney fibrosis and possible therapies and drugs. During his PhD, he was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Pathology of RWTH Aachen University Hospital (Germany) and at Accelera (Italy), where he worked with animal models and explored the requirements for integrating preclinical models into the drug discovery pipeline, aiming to generate more meaningful insights for clinical applications.
Since November 2024, he has been working as a Staff R&D Engineer and Operations Specialist at Eindhoven University of Technology, within the research groups of Orthopaedic Biomechanics, and Biomaterial Engineering & Biofabrication, in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. In this role, he oversees and coordinates activities across the Laboratory for Biomechanics and the Laboratory for Biomaterial Engineering and Biofabrication. He manages core technologies, ensures quality compliance and reproducibility, and remains actively engaged in R&D and manufacturing activities, working with several MedTech companies, hospitals and food industry.
His interests include biomaterials, biofabrication technologies, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, bioreactors, in vitro models, medical devices, diagnostics, drug testing, biomechanics, 3D cell culture, translational research and tissue engineering, with applications in both soft and hard tissue systems.
Gabriele completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, specializing in Biomechanics and Biomaterials, in December 2019. During his studies, he took part in several international programs, including summer schools at the Mechatronics Laboratory, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic, and at the Faculty of Medicine, Utrecht University, focusing on 3D Printing and Biofabrication. He also participated in an Erasmus exchange program in Biomedical Engineering at Universidad de Navarra, Tecnun, San Sebastián, Spain.
