His PhD research focuses on the application of a branding process in the revitalisation of existing urban neighbourhoods. Specifically it seeks to gain more insight in the relations between the identity of place of existing urban neighbourhoods (imago, brand), the place attachment of individuals and groups and functional, physical, spatial and morphological characteristics of the neighbourhood. Also, the research seeks to enhance the understanding of the key process elements, in order to obtain a theoretical model that accounts for the interrelations of these concepts, the key strategic factors in the process and the possible consequences of alternatives. In the end the research seeks to describe procedures and tools to promote a successful outcome of this type of branding and Real Estate Redevelopment.

At Research Institute Interface, Dave Havermans conducts research on the satisfaction of tenants with the housing quality and services of housing associations.
