Daan Schram (august 1 1940) is emeritus professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology and he is advisor to the FOM Institute of Plasma Physics in Nieuwegein. After a PhD study (thesis 1969) at the FOM Institute on a subject in high temperature plasma physics for nuclear fusion, he participated in the Alcator project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1972 he was appointed in Eindhoven and he started an extensive research program on plasma physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology. In this program the possibilities for applications received also attention. One of the themes was the development of fast deposition in the framework of energy related technologies. He initiated a yearly held European course on plasma physics and several short courses on subjects, in which plasma physics meets other disciplines. His present interests are more directed to general themes in plasma physics and the development of a two years course on energy and climate, the "energy days". He is elected member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Science.
