Claudia completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Groningen in 2023. During her doctoral research, she introduced diamond-based quantum sensing as a tool to quantify free radicals in living cells and tissues, establishing nanoscale approaches to study oxidative stress in complex biological systems. She previously earned her degree in Medical Technology from the University of Chile, graduating with distinction. Her background across biomedical engineering, quantitative imaging, and cell biology shapes her approach to cryobiology: combining physical insight with biological relevance to resolve stress mechanisms at the smallest functional scales.
Claudia Reyes-San-Martin is a postdoctoral researcher in the Self-Organizing Soft Matter (SSM) group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). She investigates the mechanisms of oxidative stress during cryopreservation, with a specific focus on how freezing-induced physical and chemical stresses impair mitochondrial function. Within the group, she develops experimental and analytical frameworks that connect controlled ice nucleation and cryomicroscopy to quantitative measurements of oxidative damage at the organelle level. Her goal is to understand why mitochondria fail during freezing and to translate this knowledge into mechanism-guided preservation strategies.
