Personal profile

Research profile

Christina Papadimitriou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). She is part of the Electrical Energy Systems group. Her main research interest is the reliable and efficient operation of smart grids, with a focus on how the active assets of the integrated grid contribute to the energy transition through their potential flexibility and ancillary services. She is also interested in renewable energy sources and emerging technologies such as storage, fuel cells and more.

To achieve decarbonization and end the dependence on fossil fuels requires a commitment beyond the electricity sector – the collaboration and flexibility of other sectors is essential. Papadimitriou focuses on optimizing integrated flexibility on the demand side to enhance the stability and operational resilience of the grid. This research involves concepts such as microgrids, web-of-cells and energy hubs.

In addition to her individual research, Papadimitriou is active in various Horizon2020 Research and Innovation projects in the theme of the integrated grid and future power systems. In all projects, she is deeply involved in concept development, consortium building and proposal writing as well. She is currently the technical coordinator of the eNeuronproject. She has also been a committee member for several international conferences and a peer reviewer for multiple journals.

Academic background

Christina Papadimitriou obtained her diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras (Greece) in 2006, followed by a PhD from the same institute in 2012. She then moved to a senior researcher position at the National Technical University of Athens(Greece), until 2016. In the next three years, Papadimitriou served as system engineer at the Hellenic Distribution Network Operator. In 2019, Papadimitriou returned to academia in the position of special scientist at the University of Cyprus. In 2021, she became Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering department at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). During her career, she has also held several teaching Assistant Professorships in Greece and Cyprus.
