Chiel van Oosterom is a PhD student at the Eindhoven University of Technology, under supervision of prof. Geert-Jan van Houtum. The topic of his dissertation is "Maintenance Optimization under Imperfect Information," and his broader research interests are in the area of decision making under uncertainty.

As of October 2020, Chiel is a researcher and lecturer at Wageningen University. Prior to that, between 2015 and 2019, he held a faculty position in the Econometric Institute at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He also received his BSc degree in Econometrics & Operational Research (2008) and MSc degree in Econometrics & Management Science (2010) from Erasmus University Rotterdam, both with the predicate "cum laude."
