Personal profile

Research profile

Cédric Van hoorickx is Assistant Professor at the Building Physics and Services (BPS) unit of the Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research and teaching focus on noise and vibration propagation in the built environment. Efficient numerical models are developed for these applications, with a focus on diffuse field modelling, uncertainty quantification, and design optimization. Key topics include analysis and optimization of sound transmission in dwellings, uncertainty quantification of sound insulation and absorption values, and design of mitigation measures for ground-borne vibration transmission.

Academic background

Cédric Van hoorickx obtained his MSc degree in Engineering Science from the Department of Civil Engineering at KU Leuven in 2013. His master’s thesis dealt with vibro-acoustic modelling of rib-stiffened plates. Van hoorickx was a PhD fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO Vlaanderen), conducting research on the design of mitigation measures for ground-borne vibrations originating from railway traffic using topology optimization. During his PhD, he was a visiting researcher at the Solid Mechanics section of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). After successfully defending his PhD in 2017, Van hoorickx worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the VirBAcous project “Virtual building acoustics: a robust and efficient analysis and optimization framework for noise transmission reduction”, funded by the European Research Council (ERC). Van hoorickx is now working at TU/e as Assistant Professor in the Building Acoustics research group.
