Brett John Mathew Petzer took degrees in Political Science and French (Rhodes University, 2007) and Architecture (University of Cape Town, 2011) before orienting himself towards an interest in the politics of urban planning, and particularly, urban mobility. This led him to a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Cape Town in 2016. His dissertation sought to explore the tension between the cycling environment as captured in evaluation and planning guidelines, and in the experiences of users. In 2017, he started his PhD candidature as part of the Eindhoven University of Technology’s Bicycle Challenges group, where his focus is on the role of cycling-based mobility systems (such as bikeshare) in the urban mobility transition of the Netherlands.
