Research profile

Arjan Markus is a tenured Assistant Professor in the Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship, and Marketing (ITEM) group at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Arjan's research explores how collaboration networks and ecosystems shape technological innovation and sustainable transitions. He employs econometrics, network analysis, and design science to investigate innovation dynamics across various levels—from intraorganizational structures to complex, multi-stakeholder ecosystems. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including the Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy, Technovation, Scientometrics, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Social Networks.

He co-obtained five large-scale consortium-based grants from Horizon Europe and NWO, including Code: Re-farm, COOPERATE, CUES, REWIRE, and GroundWork, which focus on improving collaboration and ecosystem development across agrifood and R&I systems.

Academic background

Arjan Markus holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Management from Copenhagen Business School. During his Ph.D. and as a postdoc, he visited the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Eindhoven University of Technology, Arjan worked as an Assistant Professor at Tilburg University. He is responsible for the Master course Strategic Management of Technology and the Bachelor course Entrepreneurship in Action. Committed to mentoring the next generation of innovation professionals and scholars, he co-supervises seven Ph.D. candidates and has supervised over 40 master theses and 40 bachelor projects.
