Education is a process, rather than a product. Educational innovation aims at supporting and improving that process.
Antoine van den Beemt is an associate professor with the Eindhoven School of Education, working as teacher educator and researcher in the domain of STEM-teacher professional development. He has extensive expertise in Technology Enhanced Learning and Networked Learning. His current work focuses on innovation in higher (engineering) education, with special attention for Learning Analytics, Challenge-Based Learning, and transdisciplinary learning.
Antoine van den Beemt studied Sociology at Tilburg University and graduated in 1994. The next year he received his MA from Maastricht University where he followed the European Master's course on Science, Society and Technology. From 1995 until 2005, he was teacher of Interaction Design and Game Design & Development at Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). In 2006, he started his PhD research at Utrecht University. He obtained his doctorate in 2010 with his thesis 'Interactive media practices of young people: Origins, backgrounds, motives and patterns'. During these years he also was coordinator of the education in Communication & Media Design at Avans University of Applied Sciences (2004-2007), and course leader in Game Design and Technology at Fontys University of Applied Sciences (2007-2011). During the educational year 2011/2012 he was senior researcher in Learning with ICT at HAN University of Applied Sciences. From 2012 until 2014, he was assistant professor at the Open University of the Netherlands. In 2014, he was appointed as assistant professor at the Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE) of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). In 2019 he was promoted to associate professor at ESoE.
