Academic background

Alexia Athanasopoulou received both BSc and MEng from the department of Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, Greece (5 years mandatory program). She continued her studies at the University of Strathclyde, (Glasgow, Scotland) where she was awarded an MSc in Information Management with Distinction. Directly after, she was accepted as an intern at the European Commission supporting activities in the Joint Research Centre, JRC (the scientific Centre of European Commission) in Ispra, Italy (Ispra, Italia). As soon as she completed her internship, she was admitted as a fully funded Ph.D. researcher in the ICT section of the Faculty of Technology Policy & Management of the Delft University of Technology in Delft, The Netherlands (Delft, Nederland). During her Ph.D. she participated in  European projects (ENviSION Horizon 2020, EIT Digital)

During her Ph.D. she coauthored papers, took different teaching responsibilities such as teaching assistant, supervisor and guest lecturer. To carry on her research interests she participated and she gave presentations in conferences (ECIS, DESRIST, eBled, R&D), and co-authored scientific publications. 

Research profile

In her research, she investigates business models from an Information Systems (IS) point of view following a design-science approach to design and develop design principles based artifact to support business model innovation processes. To do so she employs various methodologies (i.e., Q-methodology, action research, network analysis, experimental design, case studies) to enable the translation of theory into practical tools.
