Alberto Belmonte is a postdoctoral researcher in the Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices group under supervision of prof. dr. Albert Schenning. Alberto works on materials based on liquid-crystalline (LC) polymers, specifically on self-assembled micron-sized responsive LC elastomeric particles. These materials are interesting in many fields of application, such as optical applications, smart coatings and soft robotics.

Academic background

Alberto started his academic career in 2008 studying Chemical Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) (Barcelona, Spain). In 2014 he got his Bachelor's degree with a research project on novel high impact resistant epoxy-anhidride polymeric networks modified with hyperbranched stars in the group of Prof. dr. Xavier Ramis. During the last year of his Bachelor's degree, he did a 1-year internship at DSM Coating Resins. Afterwards he moved to Tarragona (Spain) and started his phD at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in the design and characterization of actively-moving polymers obtained via dual-curing processing under the supervision of Prof. dr. Silvia de la Flor and Prof. dr. Xavier Fernández-Francos. He got his phD in 2018 with a cum laude mention. He currently works as a postdoctoral researcher in the Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices group.
