Personal profile

Research profile

Alain Starke graduated cum laude in 2014 at the Eindhoven University of Technology from the master's program Innovation Sciences. While writing his master's thesis, he landed a 'Research Talent' grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) to pursue a PhD at the Human Technology Interaction group, supervised by dr.ir. M.C. Willemsen & Prof.dr. C.C.P. Snijders.

His current research examines how recommender systems can support consumers to save energy. Just as Netflix helps consumers to watch films, Starke's web-based energy tool Besparinghulp.nl ('Saving Aid') is designed to support consumers' energy-saving goals by presenting tailored energy-saving recommendations. Starke's research uses insights from computer science (RecSys), psychometrics (Rasch model), psychology (environmental psychology, social norms) and sociology (social networks).
