Personal profile

By implementing smart solar heat rejecting glass films in buildings and vehicles I contribute to an energy-neutral society in which people can work, live and transport in a comfortable way.

Research profile

Stijn is an enthusiastic, curiosity-driven researcher and entrepreneur, aiming to help solving problems that we are facing in nowadays society. In 2019, he obtained his PhD diploma at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the group of ‘Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices’ under supervision of Prof. Dr. Albert P.H.J. Schenning and Prof. Dr. Dirk J. Broer, where he developed materials which change their reflective color upon temperature changes. Stijn saw the potential of these materials for heat and light management in buildings and vehicles and founded the start-up ClimAd Technology in December 2019. Next to this, he became a postdoctoral researcher at the faculty of Architecture and the Build Environment of the Delft University of Technology in 2020, where he gained insights on the impact of his innovative smart glass films on a building’s energy efficiency and daylight comfort.

Academic background

Stijn started his academic career in 2010 at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. In 2015 he completed his Master's degree with specialisation Physical Chemistry with various projects on aligning polymers using liquid crystals. From 2015 to 2019 he conducted PhD research at the research group Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Right after he initiated the start-up ClimAd Technology to develop smart glass films for heat and light management in building and vehicles. He combines this with PostDoctoral research at faculty Architectural Engineering and Technology of the Delft University of Technology.
