The conventional RF measurement methods have huge shortcomings at millimeter-wave frequencies, and there is a need for accurate, fast, and cost-effective measurement equipment and techniques. My goal is to fulfill this need.
Academic background
A.J. (Teun) van den Biggelaar received his MSc degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) with distinction from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), the Netherlands, in 2016. His MSc thesis was selected as the best MSc thesis of the department of EE in the year 2016, and his MSc internship paper was selected second best by the IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest in 2016.
Teun continued his academic career as a Doctoral Candidate in the Electromagnetics (EM) group of the department of EE, TU/e, and received his PhD degree with distinction in 2020. During these four years, he worked on a project supported by NXP Semiconductors in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Additionally, he had been a guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, USA, for a period of six months. In 2020, he received the Vederprijs for his research to mm-wave phased-array antennas during his position as Doctoral Candidate.
To gain more industrial know-how and experience abroad, Teun worked for a period of two years at Ericsson in Gothenburg, Sweden, as Antenna Developer in the millimeter-wave team of the Antenna Systems and Technology division. From 2023, he is CTO of ANTENNEX in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and guest researcher at the TU/e. He is responsible for the product development, patent portfolio, and technology roadmap of AntenneX. Being at the same time a guest researcher at the TU/e gives Teun the unique position to combine ANTENNEX’ technology and company direction with the latest insights and research results of the EM group.
Research profile
Teun van den Biggelaar is a guest researcher at the Electromagnetics (EM) group, led by professor Bart Smolders. Currently, he is working on over-the-air measurement equipment and techniques for millimeter-wave wireless systems, with a focus on reverberation chambers.
