Introduction / mission

The research of our group focuses on experimental micro-mechanical and microscopic analysis of deformation and failure behavior of a broad class of (innovative) materials and material systems.

Organisational profile

Our research group focuses on experimental micromechanics of ‘thin films and interfaces’, by studying the micro-mechanics of materials or material systems by means of (i) integration of micro-mechanical and in-situ microscopic characterization to unravel underlying damage or failure mechanisms at the level of the microstructure and (ii) intricate coupling of numerical simulations to experimental procedures using advanced image correlation routines that are developed in house. Topics of particular interest include delamination, ductile damage, size effects, flexible and stretchable electronics and MEMS.
