Introduction / mission

Hydraulic Turbomachinery

Innovations in hydraulic turbomachinery often emerge at the intersections of different disciplines, such as fluid mechanics, dynamics, biology, and optimized control.

Organisation profile

Bart van Esch is an Associate Professor in the Power&Flow section of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, specializing in thermal and fluid engineering, with a focus on energy conversion. His primary areas of interest include hydraulic turbomachinery and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

In addition to his academic role, Bart serves as a senior hydraulic engineer at Bosman Watermanagement, where he oversees the design and analysis of pumping stations. He brings valuable hands-on industrial experience to both his teaching and research. His projects include minimizing energy consumption in pumping stations and developing innovative pump designs to reduce fish mortality.

Bart maintains close research collaborations with several universities in China, particularly Jiangsu University In Zhenjiang, where he holds a part-time professorship.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
