Haptics and Soft Robotics

Impact: Research Topic/Theme (at group level)

Description of impact

The mission of the Reshape lab is to enable haptic interactions through soft robotic technology. This includes design and manufacturing of soft sensors and soft actuators, perceptual studies, modeling and control of soft robotic structure, and integration into (human-in-the-loop) robotic systems.

How to pick a raspberry with a robotic gripper? How can you feel an object in virtual reality?

In the Reshape lab we study questions about physical interaction with objects that can be directly touched, are mediated through tele-operation, or are presented in VR/AR. With a focus on soft robotic solutions, we use the compliance and flexibility of materials for robot design and functionality. With human perception and action as starting point, we develop new technology that can be applied in the domains of health care (e.g. human-robot interaction or wearables) and agrifood (e.g. soft grippers for fruit picking and sorting).
