The transport of, e.g., water, oil or ions, in porous media is studied in various disciplines, i.e., civil engineering, building physics, chemical engineering, reservoir engineering and soil science. Indeed, everywhere problems are encountered of mass and heat transport through porous media and many models have been developed to describe these transport processes. This course is a first introduction and provides a basic theoretical background for modelling mass transport phenomena as seen in various engineering projects. After the introduction of the basics concepts of transport in porous media, like e.g. Darcy’s law, various applications will be discussed based on articles.
