Description

Sustainable Design of Structures (SDS) explores how structural engineers can reduce the environmental impact of buildings by integrating low-carbon and circular design strategies into structural design. The course focuses on the influence of early-stage decisions on embodied carbon, structural efficiency, adaptability, and reuse. Through lectures, hands-on instruction, and a building case study, students learn to analyze, compare, and justify structural systems and materials from a life-cycle perspective, preparing them to make informed and responsible design choices in contemporary engineering practice.
