Lectures about cells, organization and load-bearing capacity of tissues, functional anatomy of joints, and how matrix and tissue structure can led to joint function and vice versa. Guided self-education to evaluate the study material more thoroughly. A practical session is organized in which groups of students will have to couple tissue structure to joint (knee) function using a pig knee from the slaughter house. Findings of the practical session are presented to their peers. Objectives
After passing the course, the student is able to:1. Describe the anatomy of tissues and joints
2. Couple and explain tissue structure to function during a practical session
3. Couple and explain joint anatomy to function during a practical session
4. Analyze and hypothesize how tissue structure is linked to joint function
5. Design aspects of an implant taking into account the structure and function of bone, cartilage and tendon/ligament.
