Description

The purpose of the course is to give the students and introduction to steady state modelling and processes flowsheeting. This is done by using Aspen Plus software that is currently a world standard in this field. Pre-knowledge of Thermodynamics and various unit operations is a must for being able to follow the course. The intensive course consists of 5 days lecturing and 5 days reserved for the various (3 in total) case work studies (individual and group). On the last day, students are presenting and defending their biggest case study work (evaluation and marks).   The course itself is predominantly focused on unit operations (heat exchangers, reactors, flash units and distillation columns), mass/energy flowsheeting and costing factor of the chosen process.

After the course, students should be able to independently develop steady state models and plant process flow diagrams with Aspen Plus software. They should be able to judge if the proposed thermodynamics and process kinetics are realistic. Overall, they should also be able to judge the given process installation costs and the project implementation feasibility.
