Description

In Biomedical Engineering it is important to develop your practical skills in experimenting, programming and data analysis. During this skills experience in Q2 and Q3 you will be working on these skills in four different modules, each covering a different BmE field: chemical biology, biomechanics, imaging and data analytics. Two days a week you will be working individually or in small groups to answer different research questions.

Objectives

Overall learning objective:
  • Student will be able to set-up and execute a simple experiment and analyze and report on the data from this experiment, supported with valid statistical evaluation

Detailed learning objective:
Student is able to:
  • follow the safety regulations while working in a chemical and biological lab
  • prepare and plan a scientific experiment: the student can explain the aim of the experiment, the principles of the applied methods and the steps in the used protocols
  • accurately and precisely perform an experiment and to handle biological tissue, chemical material, biochemical equipment and imaging devices
  • use different experimental methods to determine the mechanical properties of biological tissue
  • design a simple experiment to compare two situations
  • choose and apply the correct statistical analysis
  • report on the goal and outcomes of an experiment in a lab journal, measurement report and on a scientific poster
  • reflect and improve on their performance through feedback
