In this course you will study a challenging algorithmic topic with a group of three students. Each student will give a presentation about one paper on the topic, and together the group will write a survey paper. Submission of the survey papers is done in a similar fashion as submissions of papers to scientific conferences. You will also have to write a review of the survey paper of another group. This way you will get a feeling for how process of writing, submitting, and reviewing scientific papers works, and you will learn how to give a presentation for a scientific audience. In the process, youi will also see several new and interesting algorithmic techniques, and you will get an overview of the kind of topics studied by the staff members of the ALGO cluster.Objectives
The goal of this course you will understand and have practised with various important aspects of algorithms research. In particular, after successfully completing the course, you will- be able to find your way in the scientific (algorithms) literature
- be able to give a presentation for a scientific audience
- know how to write a paper about algorithms research
- have an overview of the research interests in the ALGO cluster
