Safety in the chemical industry

Course

Description

Since the time of the Bhopal disaster in India in the early 1980s, the chemical industry has faced heightened scrutiny concerning safety and risks. How do we design and communicate safety in the chemical industry? In this project course, students will conduct a hazard and operability study and use it to frame a scientifically informed, ethical approach to risk analysis, management and communication. Recent accidents such as the fertilizer plant explosion in Waco, Texas can serve as case studies.
