Description

First, each student makes two (innovative) concepts, and present them in group. The group makes RPC (requirements, preferences and constrains) list based on the goal of the project and the available resources, to make the design choice and produce the preliminary design. 3D printing and laser cutting will be used to make the parts, and with the provided servos and controller, the group builds the prototype and makes improvements. Tests can already be made on various types of terrains, and the students need to derive a model based on mathematical and physical principles, to describe the basic movement functions. A competition will be held in the end to award the group who makes the best functioning robot. Finally, each group will make a report describing the desgining, manufacturing, improvements, testing and the evaluation based on the model and test data.

Objectives

Project goals
  1. Design, fabricate and test a multiped robot using a combination of hard- and software
  2. Design components for rapid prototyping (3D printing and laser cutting)
  3. Develop a simple model to describe the performance of the robot
  4. Evaluate experimental measurements and compare with the model
  5. Write a report to describe the design and prototyping process and evaluate the performance of the robot

Learning objectives professional skills:
Collaboration:
  • The student knows how to prepare a CBL meeting.
  • The student can give and receive feedback on the selfstudy assignments.
  • The student knows the different teamroles.
  • The student is able to assess both his group members and himself on fixed criteria.
  • The student knows how to define points for improvement for individual students.

Presenting
The student is able to prepare and give a presentation on a self-study assignment for his tutor and the other group members.
The student is able to adapt his presentation to the target group.
