- Architecture of Manufacturing systems
- Performance criteria such as utilization, throughput and flowtime
- Queueing models and their analysis
- Stochastics and variability
- Discrete-event simulation
- Modular simulaton models
- Optimization using discrete-event simulation
- Digital twins
Objectives
The student:- knows and understands the mathematical foundations of queueing theory and knows how the different concepts are linked
- can formulate queueing models to represent a manufacturing system with the purpose of determining performance indicators such as throughput and flow time of such a system.
- can analytically determine performance indicators such as throughput and flowtime of a give queueing model
- knows and understands the concept of discrete event simulation and its purpose and limitations
- can formulate discrete event simulation models and use discrete even simulation to establish performance indicators by means of the chosen language/tool for complex manufacturing systems (for which analytical methods are not well-applicable)
- knows and understands the concepts of push and pull control strategies and knows how they differ
- can implement several push and pull control strategies in discrete event simulation models
- uses techniques to compare performance of different manufacturing systems
- uses techniques to propose manufacturing systems with improved performance
Method of Assessment
Group assignmentWritten examination
