Coding for reliable and secure communications

Course

Description

In this course, channel codes to guarantee reliable and secure data transmission over noisy/untrusted channels will be analyzed. The course will first provide the fundamentals of coding theory to understand the rationale behind channel codes and to define their performance limits. The course will then focus on the most popular coding schemes in both classical and modern coding theory, with an emphasis on the structure of encoders and decoders. Some of the coding schemes treated in this course, like, e.g., LDPC codes, are the gold standard for today's communication systems such as digital terrestrial television or transoceanic fibre-optic links.
