Description

In teaching chemistry 2, the student gains insight into developing theoretical and pedagogical concepts across the broad field of chemistry and learns about the objectives of chemistry education. The course equips the student with practical tools, enabling a smooth start in the initial years of teaching. Emphasis is also placed on potential didactic pitfalls and challenges that novice teachers may encounter in their professional practice.

Chemistry in evolution
The pedagogical focal points of chemistry experiments and demonstrations, inquiry-based learning, design, and the use of online materials such as videos, learning environments, social media, games, and the successful implementation of the new chemistry curriculum are addressed.

Teaching methods and differentiation
Supporting learning with various teaching methods and pedagogical variations ensures that each student is engaged in their own way of learning chemistry. Attention is paid to differentiation options when teaching chemistry.

The teacher as a designer
Designing a modern practical, using simulations and models, and designing lessons around scientific and socio-scientific issues and their relationship to chemistry are part of the course.

In Teaching Chemistry 2 attention will also be paid to lesson preparation, organization of lessons, various teaching methods, and lesson evaluation.

Objectives

The student:
1. can effectively use different didactic approaches in their chemistry lessons.
2. is familiar with different misconceptions within school chemistry and can demonstrably respond to them.
3. can design, implement and evaluate a (modern) practical for chemistry in VO.
4. Is familiar with scientific and social science topics and can apply these in his/her own lessons.
5. is familiar with the various ICT possibilities and can use these within chemistry teaching practice.
