After passing the course, the student has insight in:
- Different methods of protein structure elucidation (NMR, Xray), protein domain organization, protein engineering, peptide recognition, peptide synthesis, protein-ligand interactions and can describe them and their use in chemical biology.
- Chemical biology compounds and can describe them and explain how cell surface and nuclear receptors can be analyzed by these compounds.
- The concepts of microfluidic devices and macroscopic assay and can describe the advantages of microfluidic devices compared to macroscopic assays and explain methods of preparing these devices.
- The concept of Activity-Based Protein Profiling (ABPP), the ‘bump-and-hole’ approach and can explain, describe and design specific enzyme-ligand pairs and different methods of protein labelling.
- Different assay techniques and can describe and reflect on the different means of identifying bioactive molecules.
- The concepts of DNA sequencing and RNA technologies and can discuss technological advances in DNA sequencing and the use of RNA technologies to modulate biological systems.
