Advanced concrete structures

Course

Description

Concrete structures need to be reinforced to resist bending moments, shear forces and torsional load that all act on a global level. However, e.g. supports, corners and openings disturb the global flow of forces and need special attention in the design of reinforced concrete structures. The course discusses both analytical- and numerical model to study a more complicated flow of forces and the reinforcement needs that comes with it. Throughout the course emerging technologies (like 3D Printing) and societal issues (like sustainability) will be discussed. Finally, the concept of prestressed and precast concrete will be introduced.
