Description
In traditional economies, providers have focused for long on delivering goods or individual services. In the past decade or so, however, we have seen a transformation to delivering complete solutions, realizing that customers are not that much interested in fragments. More recently, we see a trend that goes even one step further, realizing that customers actually are more interested in the business effects of solutions than the solutions themselves: the birth of the outcome economy. Engineering agile outcome business scenarios involves dealing with complex feedback mechanisms in business chains, which require adequate digital support for distributed data acquisition, explicit data trust management, and advanced data processing in federated analytics. We present the SORBET approach for outcome-based business chains and the Outcome Business Canvas as a means to engage managers in plotting and understanding the required support in technologies like IoT, blockchain, federated learning and advanced business process management. We illustrate SORBET with an industrial case of smart connected sea vessel management.
