Description
The University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) is regarded as a proof of competence of teachers who teach inacademic settings. It is used as a means to improve didactic schooling of teachers and also as an instrument
for assuring the quality of university education. All institutes of academic higher education in the
Netherlands employ similar criteria for the level of this qualification.
The UTQ aims to develop competences. The key didactic competences are:
1. Designing or redesigning teaching
2. Teaching and supervising
3. Assessment
4. Evaluating teaching
5. Professionalization
The partial UTQ certificate supervising is intended for staff with small teaching responsibilities. For
example for those who supervise bachelor or Msc. Students, or who guide students in group
projects. With this partial UTQ certification on supervising you learn more about your own
strengths and weaknesses and you develop an improvement plan on your supervising competence.
Writing your portfolio, you show your competence on supervising (which is part of the 2nd criterium
of the total UTQ) and after submitting the portfolio will be assessed by the departmental UTQ
committee. So you will receive your partial UTQ certificate supervising if the portfolio meets the
criteria in a sufficient way
