Description
In this symposia series, the Designing with Intelligence (DWI) research cluster selects pairs from the cluster’s five foundational qualities of designing with intelligence to further develop them in a collaborative and open manner. DWI invites special guest speakers, cluster members and friends for short position statements, a moderated discussion and subsequent mini workshop.In this symposium, the qualities of Aesthetics of Uncertainty and Caring for Instability are paired to seek generative tensions among technical, aesthetic and emergent properties of designing with intelligence in a broad sense. With Caring for Instability, the DWI cluster recognizes that natural, technical and social systems are increasingly unstable and deserve caring for and in their (in-)stability. With Aesthetics for Uncertainty, the DWI cluster suggest that while uncertainty as an aspect of (wet-/soft-/hardware) intelligence is often perceived negatively, it can also lead to sensual experiences of surprise and curiosity, motivating deeper exploration and reflections.
